September - Recovery Month

San Mateo County will celebrate Recovery Month with a number of fun and informational events throughout September, including a candlelight vigil, a walk of hope and a picnic and resource fair.

September – Suicide Prevention Month

Get involved with San Mateo County’s suicide prevention efforts and attend some of the educational and inspiring  events planned throughout the month of September to learn how to help prevent suicide in our community. Updates and details on events at www.smchealth.org/suicide-prevention-month

September – Prevention Training Academy

The Community Health Promotion Unit is offering three free trainings this month: Substance Use Disorder Prevention 101, Coalition Building 101 and Coalition Building 102

September 8 - Out Run: Documentary Screening 

Stop by the San Mateo County Pride Center for a screening of the documentary, Out Run Bemz Benedito, the leader of the world’s only LGBT political party.

September 23 – NAMI Walks 2017

Join BHRS in a short 5K walk to help raise funds, combat stigma and support the important work of the National Alliance On Mental Illness  (NAMI). Check out the BHRS team page to join the team or support a walker.

October 3 – National Day of Prayer for Behavioral Health and Understanding

Join us for prayers, testimonials and expressions of faith as we strive to more fully understand mental illness. Community members, consumers, family members, faith community and behavioral health providers are all welcome!

October 14 – Health Care Rights and Immigration Forum for the Chinese Community

Learn about your health care rights and how recent changes in immigration laws may impact you and your family.

October 18 – 10th Annual Housing Heroes

The 10th Annual Housing Heroes Awards will celebrate the landlords, property managers, case managers and more who have helped individuals with mental health or substance use issues find or keep housing in San Mateo County.
Submit a nomination by September 19.

October 26 - Lived Experience 2.0 Peer & Family Action Summit

Hosted by the Peer Recovery Collaborative in conjunction with the Office of Diversity and Equity and the Office of Consumer & Family Affairs of San Mateo County, participants will come together to chart the path towards improving the role of peers, consumers and family members in the delivery of mental health and substance abuse services over the next 5 years.
