New Benefit Basics Video for San Mateo County Residents
The County of San Mateo Human Services Agency has created a new explainer video: Benefit Basics: Changes & Next Steps. This short video was created to help San Mateo County residents understand important updates and next steps for several safety net programs, including Medi-Cal, CalFresh, CalWORKs, General Assistance and the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants, also known as CAPI. The video available now in English. Spanish, Chinese and Tagalog versions are coming soon!
The video explains:
- What to expect when applying for or renewing benefits
- Common information or documents residents may need
- What “verification” means
- Why it is important to read notices and respond by the due date
- How to submit documents
- When to contact HSA for help
Where to Get Naloxone in San Mateo County
The San Mateo County Overdose Prevention Coalition has been expanding access to the lifesaving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose within minutes via the naloxone stand box program. Check out the naloxone resource map to find where free naloxone is available in your community. More locations continue to be added!
David Lewis Nominations Open through August 14
The David Lewis award is presented
to an individual who has made a significant contribution to
substance abuse recovery through successful programs, community
education, stigma reduction or client advocacy. David
Lewis was a long-term employee of San Mateo County Health. He was
the co-founder and president of the Board of Directors of “Free
at Last,” a substance abuse treatment and prevention agency in
East Palo Alto that seeks to break the cycle of addiction,
rebuild families, foster education and
economic self-sufficiency, and contribute to the health and
