Karina Barretto, MD
PGY4 Co-Chief resident
Karina Teresa Barretto is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She completed a BS at the University of Wisconsin, double majoring in Biology and Pharmacology & Toxicology with a certificate in Global Health. As a medical student, she was selected for the Training in Urban Medicine and Public Health (TRIUMPH) program focused on providing community-responsive care to diverse and medically underserved populations. She partnered with a Milwaukee community center to establish a satellite primary care clinic and to increase health education and vaccine access for COVID-19. As a resident, she has co-led patient groups for Filipino patients and their families and a course on Mental Health Nutrition. Her professional interests include inpatient care, Geriatric Psychiatry, Palliative Psychiatry, family-systems approaches, and promoting health literacy. She is currently training with the Ackerman Institute for the Family and in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics. Outside of medicine, she enjoys live music, visual arts, swimming, and sharing her love of Filipino food.
