Rennie studied history and philosophy at UC Santa Barbara then earned a master’s in history at Ohio University. Following this, he completed a post-baccalaureate program at Mills College in Oakland, California, where he also volunteered at a needle exchange and pursued research in UCSF’s emergency department. While in medical school at UC Riverside, he conducted research on trans medical education, founded the local chapter of Medical Students for Choice, and served as clinic manager of a student-run free clinic. He took time off from medical school to complete a master’s in bioethics at Harvard focused on harm reduction in the trans masc community and also conducted research on the experiences of donor-conceived individuals. As a resident, Rennie has worked on a quality improvement project examining racial disparities in long-acting injectable prescriptions, co-translated the Indonesian version of the McGill Illness Narrative Interview, and is now the resident lead on a project introducing residents into the local jail system to do buprenorphine starts. He is a 2023-2024 MERF Scholar as well as a UCSF Public Psychiatry Fellow. In his free time, he enjoys learning languages, working through the Criterion Collection, and avidly following the LA Dodgers.
