Compassion & Honesty: Working With Depressed/Suicidal Older Adults While Managing Your Own Feelings
Hosted by Friendly Voices
Date/ Time: Sunday, 9/10 | 3pm-4pm PDT
Location: Virtual – RSVP to laura@friendlyvoices.org for Zoom Link
Event description: This online workshop will
equip you with the knowledge, skills, and empathy required to
support and connect with aging adults experiencing suicidal
thoughts.
We’ll explore the often intense and sometimes contradictory
feelings arising from our learned values and what we are told we
must do morally and legally when working with people who no
longer want to stay alive.
By embracing a compassionate and comprehensive approach, we can
honestly explore how our own values and beliefs impact those we
are serving.
Presenter: Mary L. Flett, PhD, is an
author, retired clinical psychologist, and nationally-recognized
speaker on aging. Her books explore valuing ourselves as elders,
connecting with others, and acquiring essential skills for aging
well and aging better. She blogs weekly on topics of interest to
aging adults. She continues to use her counseling skills as a
retirement coach, helping the curious to explore how they are
meant to be used in a world that does not always find them
useful.
