Behavioral Health Crisis Support: Outreach Update
April 2026 BHRS Director's Newsletter
Last May we shared that as part of Mental Health Month, San Mateo County Health launched an outreach campaign to spread the word that behavioral health crisis support is available anywhere in the county, at any time, and that support can come to you. From May through December 2025, we promoted the San Mateo County Crisis Line and mobile crisis response service in multiple languages through digital and physical ads, social media, and radio.
Across these channels, the outreach
campaign reached an estimated 2.7 million people, with each
person seeing an ad at least
once. This valuable outreach increases awareness
of behavioral health crisis supports and
services and helps
ensure county residents and visitors know
who to call when they or someone they know are experiencing a
crisis.
To reinforce this message year-round, outreach continues through the distribution of print materials, such as wallet cards and flyers, to local organizations and providers. For more information or to order materials for your organization, visit smchealth.org/crisis-services.

If you or someone you know is facing a mental health or substance use crisis, call the San Mateo County Crisis Line at 650-579-0350 anytime for 24/7 in-person support from a mobile response team of mental health clinicians. Callers can request help for yourself, family, friends or anyone in need.
Once your call is screened, trained behavioral health professionals will come to you in nondescript vehicles (no lights or sirens) to assess and stabilize the situation or connect you with the right care. For immediate police, fire, or medical emergencies, call 911. You can also call or text 988 for the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
