About the New Beginning Coalition (NBC)

General information

One of the ways that the NBC attempts to meet its mission is through the development, implementation, and monitoring of long-range strategic plan (Area Plan) for a continuum of services that is responsive to the needs of its consumers and acknowledges and incorporates the diversity that exists in San Mateo County. The Area Plan serves as a blueprint for all other plans regarding older adults and adults with disabilities NBC, with the assistance of the Commission on Aging and Commission on Disabilities, develops and implements the countywide strategic plan for services for older adults and adults with disabilities. NBC’s other roles include advocacy and community education. NBC meets every other month.

The NBC, in coordination with the Commission on Aging (CoA) and the Commission on Disabilities (CoD), develops and implements a comprehensive process for involving consumers and agencies in the development of each new Area Plan. Participation includes representatives from key private non-profit and governmental agencies that provide services for older adults and adults with disabilities, consumers, representatives from minority communities, and the ongoing involvement of the CoA and CoD. Completed plans are submitted to California Department on Aging for approval after the Governing Board (San Mateo County Board of Supervisors) and the Advisory Council (CoA and CoD) have had the opportunity to participate in the planning process and to review and comment on the Area Plan. Area Plans are updated annually with new Area Plan being submitted every four years.
