The Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults Has Concluded

The San Mateo County Area Agency on Aging (SMC AAA) and the California Department of Aging (CDA) sought input from the older adult community and the survey has recently concluded. This summer, residents ages 55 and over had the opportunity to complete the Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults (CASOA). Feedback provided on this survey will help the SMC AAA and the CDA better understand the needs they have and challenges they experience. These survey results will help us ensure that programs offered in SMC align with our residents’ needs.

The survey launched on July 17th, with 3,200 randomly selected households receiving a postcard invitation to take the survey online. A week later on July 24th, these same residents received a printed survey in the mail with a postage-paid return envelope. On August 24th, the survey opened up to the larger community 55 and over. The data is being analyzed now.

Next steps will include informing the community about the survey results in the fall of 2023.  The first public meeting about the survey results will be at the Commission on Aging meeting on November 13th.  For more information about that meeting, go here. Details will be added by November 10th.

Your feedback will directly influence the decisions and plans the SMC AAA, nonprofits serving the aging population, and other organizations serving our community.

The survey results will help in the development of the SMC Area Agency on Aging Area Plan for Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities for 2024-2028 and help to direct the Older Americans Act funding priorities.

This survey is conducted in partnership with Polco, an online civic engagement platform that enables residents to provide direct input to local government decision-making processes. Participants’ responses are anonymous, and personal data or identifying information are never shared. Your privacy is important to us! Learn more about Polco here and see their Privacy Policy here. If you have any questions about the survey or Polco, please call 916-970-9948.
