General information

Interpretation Services
You have the right to an interpreter at no cost to you.

To give you the best healthcare, we need to understand you. And you need to understand us. We can provide an interpreter in almost any language, including American Sign Language.

In some cases, we can arrange to have in-person interpreters available. In most cases, we will use our voice and video interpretation system. With this system, our staff can locate an interpreter for your language in a minute or two. You and your doctor will be able to either see the interpreter live on a video screen or talk to him (or her) on a speaker phone.

Dental Services

We know that dental health is an important part of your overall health. That’s why we offer total dental care including cleanings, x-rays, fillings, and extractions when needed. We provide dental care in most of our clinics and our dental mobile van travels to locations throughout the county to make sure everyone has access to the care they need.

Health Coverage

We Can Help You Get Covered

San Mateo County Health’s Health Coverage Unit (HCU) helps residents get access to health care. Our enrollment counselors guide you through the process, explain your options and help you apply. This service is free.

Call us at 650-616-2002 or email info-hcu@smcgov.org. One call connects you to the program that best fits your needs. Make an appointment for a free health coverage screening, even if you think you won’t qualify or already have private insurance that’s not from a job.

Who Qualifies

Eligibility for health coverage depends on:

  • Income – Programs have income limits based on the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).
  • Immigration status – Many programs are available regardless of immigration status. Legal status is not required for County-funded coverage.
  • Where you live
  • Other factors – Age, disability, family size or medical need.

Our team will review your situation and let you know which program you qualify for.
