The Public Authority assists In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) consumers in need of a homecare worker, by maintaining a list of qualified individuals who are interested in working as an independent provider. Registry workers who have passed background checks are referred to IHSS consumers based on their needs. A registry specialist is available to provide assistance to consumers who require additional help in hiring a provider or in establishing a positive relationship with their worker. The Public Authority also provides personnel services for IHSS providers and offers training to providers and consumers. The Public Authority is a separate agency from the County and is governed by the Board of Supervisors with input from an advisory committee.

Take a class and get reimbursed: The Public Authority’s Job Development Reimbursement Program reimburses eligible IHSS providers up to $300 per year to take classes to improve their caregiving skills including certification and re-certification for CPR-First Aid-AED. Public Authority Advisory Committee
The Public Authority Advisory Committee provides public input in the operation of the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) homecare provider registry, training for IHSS Providers and Consumers and ongoing advice and assistance about Public Authority policy and program development. The committee is comprised of 5 members appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The majority of committee members are consumers (current or past users of IHSS) and the remaining members are appointed based on their interest in public service and experience and/or educational background relevant to the functions of the Public Authority.
